Consignors = Business Partners

consign

Target, TJ Maxx, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, Anthropology …

What do all of these stores have in common?

SUPPLIERS

ALL of their inventory comes from warehouses, designers, manufacturers, etc.

Our SUPPLIERS are our CONSIGNORS.

Essentially making them { YOU } our partners in business.

{ YOU } are the key component to the beginning of our success cycle (#1 below):

1. { YOU } bring in your quality, previously loved items

2. We select, price & merchandise those items correctly

3. We sell { YOUR } items for the best possible price

4. { YOU } collect your cash

5. Cycle complete

WIN/WIN

consignors

To all of our current and future consignors out there,

THANK { YOU } for being our PARTNERS …

Our business is better because of { YOU }!

Tights or no Tights?

tightsI say TIGHTS!

Seriously!  How fun are these?

Now that it’s getting cooler out you should TOTALLY consider picking up a few pairs… they keep your legs warm, look fashionable, add flair to a boring outfit, and let’s admit it…

they look fan. freaking! tastic. with boots.

BUT!

{ and there is always a “but” }

You are probably thinking unless they are grey or black, they’re a little too schoolyard? That your legs must be the size of matchsticks to pull ’em off?  Or be that twenty-somethin’-too-cute-for-words working at Urban Outfitters?

Not true.  Not anymore.

wool tightsAlthough black tights are very chic & timeless, this season’s hottest trends are way more fun.  Instead of regarding tights as you do leggings (black, boring, basic…), think of them as a statement piece of your look. With different colors, patterns and textures to choose from, there’s no reason not to let a great pair of tights become the focal point of an outfit!

colored tights

If all the crazy colors frighten you a bit, try the deep jewel tones like emerald green, navy blue and dark maroon  – all are gorgeous hues that can be worn day or night.  And opaque tights are perfect for all shapes and sizes because they give a smooth look to the leg.

jewel tone tights

But how do you wear them when you’re over thirty (plus) without looking like you’re trying to be 20?

Best rule of thumb:

 Keep your clothes simple and one color.

A black shift dress looks awesome with a bright pair of tights.  Or be a little daring with a printed tight set against basic black.

tights fashion

If a fun pattern is where you’re at, tone it down with a knee-length skirt and knee-high boots so it gives a glimpse of tights, but gives your look a jolt of fun.

And don’t forget about layering.  If you have an old pair of fishnets, layer them over a gray pair of tights for a whole new look. Or grab a pair of knee-high socks to layer over coordinating tights with your boots.

There are so many options!

tights purple

And all are an inexpensive way to add a bit of fashion and fun to your fall and winter wardrobe! So …  tights or no tights?

TIGHTS!

Weekend Wardrobe Challenge

GAH!

I think we’ve had this conversation before, so please forgive me if we have, but this time …  I.  Am.  Serious!

I lost count after six, but I’m pretty sure I changed my clothes at least 10 times this morning before settling on something not so desirable before heading to work this morning.

* sigh *

This does NOT make for a good start to the day people.

I know I cannot be alone in this.

For some time now, I’ve been toying with the notion of settling on a two-color palette for my closet.  Mainly in effort of helping me decide which pieces to eliminate in order to down-size my desperately over-crowded closet.

But I have yet to make myself go there.

However, after this morning’s escapades, I don’t think I can muster enough strength, or time for that matter, to do it again.  And I think I have finally found my inspiration.

Somewhere along my social media stumblings in and around my day, I came across this “10 Piece Wardrobe Challenge” over on Polyvore.

Now THIS is a challenge I can accept!

{ maybe not the red pants for this curvy girl, but something similar? }

What’s even stranger AND sweeter is that these 10 pieces alone can create a minimum of 20 different outfits together! Throw in a few accessories and you easily have a full months worth of combinations!

I know!  RIGHT?!

Sorry.  In case you are unable to sense my excitement, I am elated at this possibility! Do you have any idea what this could mean for my daily dressing routine?!  Not to mention my psyche? Seriously. I am so in love with this idea.

Ok.  Enough gushing.  I’m sure you get it by now.

Check out these other 10 piece possibilities:

I’m pretty sure I already have one or two of these items in my closet.  Those will dictate my direction .. { as long as they fit well …  and fit well today.  Not 10 lbs lighter …  today }.

First thing on my list, is a really nice fitting, tailored, black blazer.  This can be somewhat of a challenge for a girl who was blessed in the upper torso region { if you catch my drift } but the blazer is a necessary and very versatile piece.  And I look forward to spending hard-earned cash on this.

The rest of it I will piece together this weekend as I make the rounds to our five Stuff Etc stores.   THIS is going to happen friends.

And I look forward to the day that I can { enthusiastically } empty my closet of all the other unnecessaries.  You can take that to the bank!  Actually, I will … after I cash the check I get for selling all of my no-longer-in-my-wardrobe-wheelhouse stuff at Stuff.

Happy Happy Weekend!

Clashing is Cool

Who knew?

Once upon a time in a land far far away two completely opposite prints fell in love, got married and lived a crazy cool life together! And there you have it….a love story to last …. through 2012 at least.

Mixing and matching prints is all the craze for this season. And believe it or not, there is a right way to pull it off.

1. The easiest way to incorporate different prints into a particular outfit is to focus on a main piece and match a different printed item that is within the same color family. The combination could be as simple as combining a black and white abstract-printed skirt with a black and white striped sailor top.

2. A more advanced example would be pairing items that are complementary in color: blue and orange, yellow and violet and red and green. Choosing to mix patterns and prints that are complementary in color will make each item appear brighter when worn together.

3. There are also some prints and patterns that look effortlessly chic when styled together. Pairing stripes and florals is one of the easiest ways to pull-off the mixed print look. A bold striped blazer would look impeccable over a flirty floral dress, but if you’re too  timid to make such a statement, opt for a pairing of a floral scarf with a sailor-striped tank.

4. Another easy pairing is to combine artsy polka dots with stripes, something as simple as wearing a polka dot top with a striped sweater, but remember to vary the scale of the print to add more visual interest.

5. And DON’T FORGET TO ACCESSORIZE!  Anything goes these days and the more you layer the better and whatever you do …. don’t match!

Now go …

and be fruitful in your mixing print endeavors.

We’d LOVE to see what you come up with … hope this helps!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

I love the idea of using recycled items as planters.

It’s green. It’s creative. and I think it looks cool.

{ p/c via apartment therapy }

Sometimes it takes a little thinking outside the box like these awesome ideas…

{ p/c via curbly }

I found these items in our stores that I think will be PERFECT!

That little chef hat dude …

YEP! He’s going home with me .. I envision some rad hair growing outta that hat!

Here are some other ideas I really like:

The following upcycle ideas aren’t really MY style, but i guess you gotta give ’em some credit for creativity:

What are your garden plans this year?

Hope you found a little inspiration!

Part of Who You Are

This week in the office, we had a debate ..

what’s the difference between style and fashion?

STYLE IS HOW YOU WRITE, HOW YOU PAINT, HOW YOU DRESS. STYLE IS INNATE.

IT’S PART OF WHO YOU ARE.

Fashion is just the latest trend.  And you, my friend, are not a trend.

I love the style of Mary Russell, former fashion editor for Elle and Vogue (seen here with Gunter Sachs in St. Tropez).  Simple.  Classic.  She owns it.

“Women look best and feel best when their clothes are not the uniform of the moment but part of themselves.” —Mary Russell

Is that not the truth?

* sigh *

Do you have a “style”?

I encourage you to sincerely think about it this weekend.

What do you wear that feels like a part of yourself?  Even if it’s one piece.

That’s your style.

Now get rid of everything else that is “uniform of the moment”

(take those to your nearest Stuff Etc)

And  replace them ALL with your STYLE in mind.

(let us know if we can help … we’ve been known to have some in-house experts)

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

In Awe of Restructuring

Maybe it’s because I’m not gifted in this way, but I am in total awe of others that have the vision and the talent to take recycled clothing and turn it into something completely different!

Like Stuff shopper, Megan Clark, from Sigourney.

I was in my office working away yesterday when I overheard Megan explaining to her young son what she was doing,

“I’m buying clothes that I can make into something else.”

“oh” he quietly responds.

But my ears perk up and I think … ‘I gotta meet this girl!’

Now, it’s always awkward approaching a complete stranger as you try to explain that you weren’t really eavesdropping, but you couldn’t help overhearing her comment.  Megan was very kind and when I asked if she would be willing to send me some pictures of her creations, she said “What about these?”

No way! Legwarmers made out of a sweatshirt!!!!  BRILLIANT Megan!!!

Seriously!

Absolutely brilliant!  I. Love. Them!

When I asked if I could take her picture, she kindly obliged and mentioned that the sweater she was wearing (and so stylishly belted, I might add) was once a men’s sweater that she restructured to have pockets and a trendy flair.

love. the. whole. darn. thing! (isn’t she adorable?)

Thank you, Megan!

For sharing your talents (and for not thinking I’m some creepy basement lady listening in on mother /son conversations).

I look forward to featuring more of Megan and her restructured fashions here on Stuff Happens.
